Title says all.

WRITING SAMPLE -- THE FOREST FIRE
It started with smoke.
At first it was thin, little more than something to wrinkle your nose at. Soon, however, it strengthened and grew, thick and gray, causing Lein to cough and fall to the ground, where the air was still fresh. There was a thud as Dyra hit the ground beside him, her eyes wide.
“What is it?” she asked, though they both knew what it was.
Lein’s eyes narrowed. “There’s only one thing it can be...”
He turned his head to look at Dyra. “The forest is on fire,” he whispered.
For a moment, he was tempted to think -- but no, there was no way it could be the package of blowroot Lein had sold just an hour ago. It was impossible.
He hoped.
“We’ve got to get to the village,” Lein said. “The wind’s blowing this way. Chances are the Agori and Glatorian won’t realize until too late.”
Dyra nodded, and off they went, crawling across the ground and pushing vegetation out of their faces. It was painstaking work; every time one of them tried to stand, it was not long they were overcome with coughing and sent back to the ground. Slowly but steadily, they made their way around the small hillock overlooking the village.
Unfortunately, that was as far as they could go.
They could see the fire now, a blazing inferno of heat and light, dancing across the leaves and wood scattered over the forest floor. Every now and then a tendril of heat would leap from the main flame, licking a leaf or branch and then falling back. A moment later the plant life would leap into fire as well, making Lein wince in sympathy for the burning foliage. He was a Jungle Tribe Agori. Linked to plants as he was, it was unbearable to see them burn, and yet be unable to do anything about it.
In fact, Lein had surely caused it -- for as he gazed across the flames, he saw one area of the vegetation that was pulled back and blackened, as if an explosion had taken place. And as far as Lein knew, there was no other blowroot being sold around Bota Magna -- the Agori he had procured it off of had emphasized its worth as an ‘endangered plant’.
Too bad blowroot is ‘endangered’ and not ‘extinct’.
Beside Lein, Dyra fidgeted nervously. He put an arm across her shoulders to comfort her. “Don’t worry,” he assured.
“Don’t worry?” The words came out strangled, and Lein realized Dyra was fighting back tears -- not of sadness, but of fear. “How can we not worry? Lein... don’t you realize we have been suffering a drought?”
Her eyes shone with moisture, so unlike the dry wood and leaves around the two Agori. “A drought,” she repeated, as if to make sure Lein had heard her correctly. “Lots of heat, and little water. This forest is kindling waiting to happen.”
She didn’t continue, but the meaning of her words was clear. There was no way out.
